As a mom, loving yourself more may seem like a selfish thing to practice. Loving yourself more is not being vein or thinking you are more important than someone else because you choose yourself first. Quite the opposite is true! By giving yourself the love you deserve, you are better able to care for your loved ones like never before.
In an ideal world, I would love to see more of this with my clients. I’ve drafted a short but powerful response to a question I received on why clients would benefit in loving themselves more.
“What are the initial steps with a first time client who came to you for some guidance on feeling better?”
As a life coach, my first step in helping a client feel better about their emotional situation would be to love themselves more by encouraging them to practice self-compassion. This involves developing a kind and non-judgmental attitude towards oneself, and recognizing that it’s okay to make mistakes and have flaws.
I would also suggest that my client focus on their strengths and celebrate their accomplishments, rather than dwelling on their shortcomings. This can help build self-confidence and self-esteem.
Another important aspect of self-love is self-care. I would encourage my client to prioritize taking care of their physical, emotional, and mental well-being. This could involve activities such as exercise, meditation, getting enough sleep, and spending time with loved ones.
Finally, I would encourage my client to challenge any negative self-talk or limiting beliefs that may be holding them back. By identifying and reframing these thoughts, my client can begin to cultivate a more positive and empowering self-image.
