Inspiration Comes To Those Who Work For It

I spent so much of my adult life dreaming and envisioning a grandiose life for my future. What can I say, it’s the Pisces in me. Now, I’m all about creating big ridiculous visions for my future. But I was missing an essential piece to all of my dreaming…. the ACTION!

My days were spent dreaming about finding my “purpose”. And hoping I can find the one thing I was out on this earth to fulfill. I was never truly satisfied in the job I was in, because I always believed I needed to do something with more meaning. My intent behind each job was to do the best work I can to earn my paychecks and make my living. And although I had incredible work ethic and was being productive, I felt as though my job should be “making a difference” or have “more meaning”. Outside of work I wasn’t doing anything extra to try and find my purpose. I’d get home and do regular everyday tasks. Sometimes I’d take a nap (before becoming a mom of course 🤪) or I’d do the laundry, go out to dinner, etc.

I always had a yearning that I was meant for more. But what that was, was a mystery to me. I sat around and hoped that the inspiration would come to me. And the lack of inspiration coming to me, was causing alot of frustration. I pictured myself as someday becoming enlightened and magically begin doing what I was put on this earth to do. I believed that simply having a desire to do more with my life would be enough. Just wanting for something to happen would somehow manifest it into my life. After all, that’s what the books said, you will know when you find your purpose. Just believe it will happen for you.

There were certain things I’d be drawn to do. For example doing makeup. I’d dive into it and give it my all. Then, I’d start to feel some type of uncomfortable feeling, and quit. Most of the time, my uncomfortable feeling would be that whatever I was embarking on, wasn’t big enough. It wasn’t good enough. What difference was I making by doing someone’s makeup? What impact would this have on their life? Believe me, I was hard on myself, and my own worst critic.

No matter what I would have chosen to do, the importance is that I would have stuck with it and seen it through. I was missing out on seeing what potential I may have. I was failing at things before even giving them a chance.

Well, now that I know better, I do better! Thank you Miss Maya Angelou. I know that in order to find my purpose, I must take action, and keep taking action. As the saying goes, we can meet the universe half way. Meaning we must put in our part and do the work, in order to fulfill our dreams and live the type of life we dream of. Unfortunately, simply dreaming of that life will not make it appear. But what will help us get closer to it, is working towards it. Even if we keep at something and it may turn out differently than what we planned, we are closer to figuring out what will work. And along the way we are learning more about ourselves

In order to grow into the person we want to become, we gotta go to work, ya’ll. Let me know some things you’re going to get started on to get you closer to your dreams.
