Welcome Pain

As human beings we are programmed to seek pleasure and avoid pain. So I can understand how this title may be a little disturbing to some.

The pain I am referring to is the type of pain that helps us grow and evolve. We have an opportunity to learn from whatever painful experience we may be going through. Think about a very painful experience you may have been through in your life. Chances are, it may have taught you one of the biggest lessons in your life. Which makes it stand out in your mind the most.

As awful as experiencing pain may be, there is always a pot of gold on the other side. While we are going through the painful situation, it is important to still recognize everything we are feeling. Don’t try to push those negative feelings off by avoiding them. Acknowledge them there, breathe them in. We want to validate their existence. If you haven’t done this in the past, this will make a huge difference in the process moving forward.

Most pain we encounter is quickly rejected. Our brains say, No, thank you, get away from me!” And we push away at it and wish it gone. But this is not a true way to get rid of it. This will only last momentarily and before we know it, the pain is back and stronger than it was before. It’s almost as if we help it grow by resisting it.

There is a lot of pain we know we will eventually have to face, like the death of someone we love. But there is also the pain we take our chances on, because the reward is so much more grand! A perfect example is growing your family. Intellectually you knew when you tried getting pregnant that there was a chance you may not be able to carry through with the pregnancy, that something may happen to that beautiful baby you were trying to conceive. BUT you were willing to go through the pain of that, in order to see what miracle was on the other side for you. And aren’t you glad you did?!

We have so many opportunities within our lives span to learn from our painful experiences, and come out stronger on the other side. What if we can continue to embrace the hardship and pain that comes with being a human. All the time knowing we are evolving ourselves and pushing our capacity to become stronger.

You continue to amaze me in everything you are willing to do, Mami!
