When Your Parenting Styles Are Different

Parenting is one of the toughest roles you’ll ever have. If there are two of you doing the parenting, well, that may add a few notches on the “tough” o-meter 😝 But, co-parenting does require an elevated level of understanding. As much as you’d like for the other parent to follow along with your methods and suggestions, it just quite doesn’t happen that way.

You’re probably going to bump heads at some point. This is totally normal. It’s important to remember your differences all while keeping in mind your biggest goal: your child. As parents, we want to have the conversations with one another. Preferably when it can be just the two of you and not during the moment of chaos.

You can dig deep into all of the expert’s advice on parenting to teach you things you didn’t know before you became a parent. And learning more about this ever changing relationship is a great thing. We can help put an end to generational set backs and struggles. But just like with anything else, we are all unique. One size does not fit all, and we need to do what is best for our own unique lives. As much informations as is out there, we must always do what we think will work best for our family.

Embracing each other’s differences can truly help bring you together as a united front. There have been things my husband has helped me see, that I was not able to. Above all else, the most important thing to remember is that there is not a perfect way to parent. You’re not going to get it right all the time. And that is ok. This can all serve as a learning experience for all parties involved. With coming together and getting through each challenge, comes strength in our family unit. And that is something I strive for.
