Have you ever visualized what your life will look like in the future? Do you see a grand vision for yourself and your life? Or do you see your future as an extension of the way you are currently living? My guess is, that if you don’t get excited thinking about what the future has in store for you, than the latter may be true. But that is ok, because you are in control of your vision, and it can be changed if you’d like.
I now love thinking about my future self. I used to only visualize my future life, but I’d never really pay focus to what type of person I would be. Now, I like to think about her quite a bit. I get into the nitty gritty and try to be as detailed as possible. What is she like, what does she enjoy doing, how is her wardrobe? I mean, I get detailed!
Some may think this is fantasy, and that I should focus on reality. But the truth is all of our futures are sort of fantasy, because we are not sure if we’ll ever get there. (A bit morbid, but hey) The truth is, our futures only exist in our minds. So, wouldn’t you like to think of all the wonderful ness that could be in your future? What would be the alternative? Thinking the worst case scenario for yourself? Because that sounds more realistic?
As I mentioned earlier, it’s all an illusion because we may not even get to experience what our future has in store for us. (Being morbid again:) I personally would rather imagine a future that I look forward to and dream about. That makes getting out of bed every morning much more exciting.
I was once a more realistic person. I’d stress over what the future may bring. How I was going to pay off all my debt, would I ever get to travel the world….and on, and on. Let me just tell you that stressing over these things in my life did not motivate me to dream for a bigger, bolder life. The stress kept me small. The stress did not push me to be great.
And yet, our human brain insists that it is better to fill ourselves with concern and worry. This is what the brain is supposed to do, keep us safe and out of harm’s way. But in modern day, the type of harm we most commonly get ourselves in, is emotional. Our brains are trying to keep us from feeling any negative emotions, at any cost! This means it wants you to keep stressing about your future, and wants you to keep doing what you’ve always done. Up until this point, that has kept you alive, and the brain likes that.
As the evolved humans we now are, we know better than to listen to our outdated brain. We know we want to grow into amazing versions of ourselves. And we also know that in order to have such a life, we must challenge ourselves. Being willing to feel any emotion that comes our way.
Your future self deserves to be treated right. Sometimes we get so busy living our lives, we forget to work on what we want our lives to be like. I’d love for you to join in on the fun. Spend a bit of time visualizing what you would like to be like in the future. Be as detailed as you’d like to be, and most importantly, have fun with it. This is your movie, and you are the star, honey!
