The Motivated Mami

Discomfort

I’ve been in some serious discomfort you guys! Nothing unbearable…but then again, I’ll let you be the judge of that. I am not eating sugar and flour. That’s right, me, the sugar loving, dessert after every meal, I’ll take another cookie please, lady. I’d been a flour and sugar addict as far back as I can remember. I had so much desire for it, that it was part of every celebration, and accomplishment in my life.

I came to a point that I honestly felt like I couldn’t live without it. I was also spending so much of my energy dedicated to food, that I was depleting my energy for other areas of my life. And I did not like “something” having so much control over me. I wanted to be the one who decided what was best for me and my body.

So I decided to cut out sugar and flour from my life. I know it may sound extreme to some, and it can be, but I have an altierer motive that is bigger than my cravings for sugar and flour. I knew getting into this that it was going to be an uncomfortable process. But I also know that anytime there is growth involved, we can also expect discomfort.

Now, I am choosing the discomfort I want to feel. Discomfort of not being in the body I want to be in or discomfort of not having the cheesecake after dinner? I’m choosing the latter. Intellectually it’s a no brainer, but in the moment it gets real, and the craving kicks in. I’m truly learning to choose what I want most versus what I want now.

I must say, as much discomfort as I expected to be in, I am doing fairly well. The moment I start to want to have that piece of pastry, I feel a tightness in my stomach. I imagine what it would taste like to my taste buds. I then acknowledge all the uncomfortable sensations, and before I know it they’re gone. It feels intense in the moment, but nothing unbearable. It was definitely worse in my imagination than in actuality.

I have much more focus to dedicate to other areas of my life. Having the discipline to stick to my word has given me a huge boost in my self confidence, before the scale moved down. And that is a net positive affect that I wasn’t expecting. I feel a sense of empowerment in my ability.

Just think, what if you were willing to go through any amount of discomfort in order to live out your dreams?!
