Definition: The refusal to accept or comply with something.

We’ve all experienced one form of resistance or another, at some point in our lives. I’d like to offer a different view point from what you may have come across in the past.
To set the scenario, imagine you are at a party. You’ve been limiting the amount of flour and sugar you eat to increase your health. Well, to your dismay, this party has a huge selection of pastries! Cookies, brownies, cheesecake, you name it. You find yourself feeling resistant to consuming any of them. How do you respond to your resistance? Do you hold out, binge when no one is watching, hate yourself for wanting it in the first place?
All of the above is simply a reaction to the resistance. Meaning, if you were to allow the urge of wanting to eat everything in front of you, the actually sensation you’d experience caused by the urge would not be so bad. Our thoughts about the feeling we are avoiding cause us much more discomfort than just allowing the feeling to sit with us momentarily.
What if you allowed the feeling of discomfort to be there? What if you accepted the uncomfortable feeling to sit with you?
So many times, as new moms, we find ourselves resisting what is. Maybe you are comparing your life before children to the life that is now. Maybe you wish you had the body before baby, the sleep schedule before baby. Most things “out there” seem better than the state you find yourself in now.
But your “now” is what is. Life IS different, and that is ok. Even if the feelings you are experiencing may not be ideal, they are also not permanent. Being resistant and pushing these feelings away, will not make them disappear. Trust me, I’ve tried that, shortly after having my baby girl.
So now, I’d like you to notice what thoughts and feelings you’ve been resistant to.
