How many things are you juggling right now? Is your To-Do List filled with countless tasks? Are you so overwhelmed that you’d rather just lay down instead of getting started on all the things you have to do? The truth is I can’t blame you for not wanting to do any of it. Who would want to embark on anything that sounds so dreadful? I “have” to do _____ I “need” to do _____.
It all sounds like a punishment you must pay for. And no one deserves to live life this way. What if there was another way to all of this? Well my friend, you’re in luck, because there is. And this doesn’t include a fairy godmother to help you do all the things you have to do.
The secret is to approach your have to do’s with want to do’s! I know this sounds so basic, but it will have quite the effect. An example I can offer you is to start with a task that can seem daunting to you. Let’s say you have 7 loads of laundry to do in order to wash everything you have in your hamper right now. I will safely assume you are a hygienic person and prefer to wear clean clothes. So what about thinking I want to do the laundry because I want to have clean clothes for me and my family. Just changing that little bit will have a tremendous effect on how you show up.
Let me just say, that for me, this was the golden ticket! I have drastically changed my outlook on so many of the things I used to dread. And of course there are still times that my human brain will offer me the “ugh, you have to do ____” and I will need to correct it and instead think, “no, I choose to do ____”
I’ve applied this to SO many areas of my life, I’ve honestly lost count. Anything from chores that I don’t always enjoy, taxes, exercising, waxing my underarms, I mean the list is endless. The beauty behind it is that I am not tricking myself into loving the specific task. But instead I am uncovering the truth of why I want to do this in the first place. And knowing that I do not have to do anything, has eased so much of my self inflicted pressure. By choosing the things I want to do in my life, I am giving myself all the power back. And we all know what wonderful things we can create when we take back our power. It is something that will benefit us in the short and long run. What a fabulous outcome! Do you have some area(s) you’d like to apply this to?
