How many times have you stopped yourself from doing something in fear of what may happen? I can almost assure we’ve all done this on multiple occasions and continue to do so throughout our lives.
Everything we do is because of a feeling we think we will feel in the doing of it. Or it can be a feeling we are avoiding in the not doing of the action. It always comes down to how we will feel.
I had heard this concept long ago, but didn’t relate to it in my own life. Until I started looking at my brain and the unhelpful thoughts it was offering me. Then, I was shocked at how much I was missing in my life because of fear of feeling an emotion. How could it be that I was holding myself back simply to bypass an emotion?! The truth is, no one was gonna die or be seriously hurt if I _______ The worst that could have happened was my response emotion to it.
For so long I knew I wanted to help other new moms who were also going through some of the struggles I had been going through. I wasn’t sure in what form I’d be able to help them. Then I envisioned starting this blog as a way to do my part and deliver some form of help. Although that sounds easy enough, believe me, I struggled. The constant fear I would imagine when starting this new venture and putting myself out there. Fear, rejection, humiliation, just to name a few. As awful as they sound, what harm would they truly cause me? Was I going to be seriously hurt if someone made a rude comment about a post? Would my life be in danger if I let the fear run through my body? The truth is, all of these “bad” emotions are just that, emotions!
What I would make them mean was up to me.
I knew I wanted to put my work out into the world. I wanted other moms to know my struggles, because they may be their struggles too. All of my reasons for doing this were greater than any negative emotion I may experience along the way.
So next time you are about to take something on for your own evolvement, remember that the only thing stopping you is an emotion. What would you create in your life if you weren’t afraid to feel an emotion?!
